“So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
Isaiah 41:10 NIV
Dear Members and Friends of the Harrisburg First Seventh-day Adventist Church,
When my son, Jonathan, was five years old, we went for a walk by the lake near our home. It was a cloudy, windy day, and as we stepped onto the dock, it was moving up and down with the waves. Jonathan spoke just a few words that touched my heart: “The wind and the waves obey His voice.”
We had been reading the story “Jesus and the Storm” from the children’s book My Bible Friends. The disciples were in a boat at night with Jesus when a furious storm came up, and the waves tossed the boat up and down and filled the boat. Jesus was sleeping, so they woke him and said to him, “Lord save us; we perish!” Jesus heard their cry for help, stood up, and said to the wind and waves, “Peace—be still.” He then asked His disciples, “Why were you afraid when I was with you?” Mark 4:41 tells us that they asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey Him!”
In the midst of this present storm, let’s remember that God is with us, He will strengthen us, and He will uphold us with His righteous right hand.
“Let’s encourage one another and all the more as we see the day approaching.” If I or our church family can be of assistance to you during this time, please do not hesitate to call: 717-652-6000.
