Dear Members and Friends of the Harrisburg First Seventh-day Adventist Church,
Early in my ministry, a pastor friend and I were training in the ministry of active listening, and we learned the value of listening to what people were not saying. One morning my friend went to visit with a businessman. As he entered the man’s office, he noticed the large collection of mechanical clocks. All were running and set to the correct time. During the visit, he made a simple observation: “You appear to really care about time. Why is that?” The man then spoke from his heart about how unsettled he was concerning the time he had left. My friend was then able to share the good news, and he invited him to commit his life to Jesus.
So, what time is it? The disciples, in Matthew 24, asked Jesus this same question, “Tell us,” they said, “when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?” (Matthew 24:3) In response, Jesus spoke of the signs of the end, gave essential counsel, and told parables to emphasize what really matters. In my Bible, I have marked some of His key statements that speak to us today:
“he who stands firm to the end will be saved”
“this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world… and then the end will come” “No one knows about that day or hour… but only the Father”
“So, you also must be ready…”
“Therefore keep watch…”
“whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.”
“Let’s encourage one another and all the more as we see the day approaching.” If I or our church family can be of assistance to you during this time, please do not hesitate to call: 717-652-6000.
