Every Mother’s Day, I turn to these intimate words of Paul to Timothy, and I am reminded of the spiritual influence of my own grandmother and mother. My grandmother’s study was a peaceful room where she spent quiet time reading her Bible and praying. When we visited, she would often invite us there to listen to Bible stories and music on her record player. She was always active in the church as the treasurer, and she used a filmstrip projector to give Bible studies to interested people. I remember my mother studying her Bible every day. On Friday she spent the day meticulously cleaning and preparing food for the Sabbath. Then, through the evening, as she “put up her hair,” she would study the Sabbath School lesson, listen to Christian music, and spend time talking and reading with us. She would often read with us from The Bible Story and Bedtime Stories by Uncle Arthur Maxwell.
Paul recognized the “sincere faith” that was modeled for Timothy by his mother and grandmother. He urges Timothy to “fan into flame the gift of God.” The gift of the Spirit does not cause us to be timid but gives us an inner confidence, unselfish love, and self-control.
Children see what God’s love is all about through their mothers. Mothers, never doubt the value of all your hard work. Happy Mother’s Day to all our moms.
“Let’s encourage one another and all the more as we see the day approaching.” If I or our church family can be of assistance to you during this time, please do not hesitate to call: 717-652-6000.

You can help our Harrisburg Adventist School
The coronavirus has placed our school, our churches, and ourselves into unknown territory. During this time, some of us are finding that we are doing more online shopping and grocery store deliveries or pickups. This is a friendly reminder that during these uncertain times, one way to help is by supporting the Harrisburg Adventist School while doing your shopping. By shopping through AmazonSmile, it helps our school collect money at no extra cost to you.
FAQ’S for AmazonSmile:
How do I shop at AmazonSmile? Go to smile.amazon.com to make purchases. Purchasing through amazon.com does NOT give donations to our school.
Which products are eligible for donation? Products marked “Eligible for AmazonSmile donation” on their product details page are participating products.
Can I use my existing amazon.com account information on AmazonSmile? Yes. You can sign into AmazonSmile the same way you would sign into amazon.com.
How do I select Harrisburg Adventist School as my organization? On your first visit to smile.amazon.com, you will need to go under charitable organization and choose Harrisburg Adventist School.
Also, please encourage your family and friends to support our school. It is our hope that you all stay safe and healthy, and we look forward to seeing each one of you again soon.
Again, thank you for your support,
Heidi Umbrell, Home and School Leader
